Jazz in the Pines on Us!

Pines, Parachutes and Jazz, what could be better?

Pines, Parachutes and Jazz, what could be better?

Looking for a last-minute getaway before the summer ends?

We highly recommend the Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines festival, which is August 19, 20 and 21 this year. The festival is held on the mountain campus of the Idyllwild Arts Foundation and features all-day music on multiple stages, food and drink, and a marketplace which features the work of local artists including jewelry, clothing, pottery and crafts.

Idyllwild-Pine Cove is just an hour’s drive from The Biskra House and makes for a great day-trip any time of the year, but especially in the summer when temperatures climb on the desert floor.

The Jazz fest makes for a very relaxing day outdoors in a beautiful setting. The first day, Friday, is a patrons VIP dinner and dance, so for most of us the real event is Saturday and Sunday.

Certain areas are designated for parking, with shuttle transportation to the campus.

Neither pets nor coolers are allowed, unfortunately.

Best of all, the first party to complete a 4-night booking between August 17 and August 24 gets 4 one-day 2016 Jazz in the Pines tickets on us! Just be sure to mention this post and tell us what day you would like to attend.

Puttin' on the Ritz

Can you believe it's the 40th anniversary of the release of Young Frankenstein? Mel Brooks celebrated in style last Tuesday at Mann's Chinese theater, proving he's still got it at age 88.

What does this have to do with a vacation rental in Rancho Mirage? Nothing, except that I can't think of the new Ritz-Carlton in Rancho Mirage without thinking of the performance above. If Mel's not too old for a juvenile sense of humor, neither am I.

Luckily, they don't screen for mental age at the bar.

Open since May, the outdoor patio at the State Fare restaurant is a favorite of locals for sunset cocktails. We can verify that the cocktails are delicious, and with the property perched high on a hill, the views are spectacular. We can't wait to try dinner there, the burgers look delicious. If you beat us to it, be sure to leave a comment and tell us how it was.

We're also thrilled that they allow dogs on the patio, so we've added it to the list of dog-friendly restaurants (be sure to call and verify.)

Parking is valet-only, so be sure to get your ticket validated to waive the fee. If you've got a designated driver in the group, there's a special mocktail menu for them, and if everyone's in the mood to celebrate, leave the driving to a pro.

Oh, and don't worry if you can't stop humming the song while you're there. They're used to it.
